What low fat alternative is available for brushing on philo dough?

Question by angry: What low fat alternative is available for brushing on philo dough?
I bought philo dough because it’s fat free. The directions say to brush each layer with butter. It tastes great that way but there goes the fat-free concept. I tried using it with nothing brushed on it but it tasted like paper. Then I tried brushing water on it but the layers clump together and taste like wet cardboard. Is there a good low-fat alternative that tastes pretty good?

Best answer:

Answer by Treece
You could try the “I can’t believe it’s not butter” spray stuff… no fat but has the taste of butter. I have started using this on all veggies, potatoes and rice and it tastes like butter or margarine. Another alternative would be beaten egg, but that has fat, or the “egg beaters” stuff would probably work, or just a beaten egg white.

Valuable ‘Footcare Health Tips’ Booklet Now Available from Microplane

Valuable ‘Footcare Health Tips’ Booklet Now Available from Microplane

Russellville, AR (PRWEB) July 20, 2007

With 26 bones, 33 joints and more than 100 tendons, muscles and ligaments, feet are an integral and vulnerable part of the body. Paying more attention to feet can not only prevent painful foot ailments, but also stave-off more serious health issues. To help spread awareness about proper foot consciousness Microplane® Personal Care and noted podiatrist Dr. Marc Brenner have created a foot health tips booklet entitled “Transform Your Soles®.”

The booklet contains valuable information from Dr. Brenner, founder and Chief of the Institute of Diabetic Foot Research, and past president of the American Society of Podiatric Dermatology, about how to practice proper foot care. Helpful information contained in the booklet includes:

Preventable health issues that can be detected (and reversed!) through regular, proper foot care
Things to avoid when caring for your feet at home and in the salon
Sure-fire ways to keep your feet healthy throughout the year
Why proper foot care is critical to the 21 million Americans living with diabetes
Why foot consciousness means more than just visiting the salon, but also includes a regular at-home foot care routine

While there are a variety of at-home foot care products on the market, only a few are truly effective in leaving your feet smooth and healthy. Pumice stones and traditional foot files can provide temporary relief for unsightly heels and toes, but often require such frequent use that people become frustrated and give up. Callus shavers can also be effective, but their sharp blades make them dangerous to use. A good alternative is the Microplane® Foot File, which features bi-directional micro-files that are safe and surprisingly effective. Strictly for use on dry feet, this patented file instantly produces feet that are soft, smooth, and healthy.

How the amount of money available will affect the decisions in meal planning?

Question by Annie Cristiccini: How the amount of money available will affect the decisions in meal planning?

Best answer:

Answer by pennybarr
The less money in your food budget, the more inventive you will have to be. I’m sure most people would try to give their family a healthy meal, but be using cheaper cuts of meat, fish or chicken, using more fillers-like pasta and rice and hopefully adding fruits and veggies which should be less costly now than in winter. People are not eating out or ordering in as much as they used to.

Nutrisystem For Vegetarians: What Nutrisystem Vegetarian Meals Are Available For People Who Don’t Eat Meat?

Nutrisystem For Vegetarians: What Nutrisystem Vegetarian Meals Are Available For People Who Don’t Eat Meat?

I often cover the Nutriystem diet plan. The other day, a woman wrote to me and indicated that she was a vegetarian and therefore didn’t know if this diet would work for her. She wanted to know if she could hand pick the meals to include only meatless options or if she would have enough variety to make it work.  I’ll tell you what I told her in the following article.

There Is A Specific Nutrisystem Plan Just For Vegetarians:  You can hand pick your meals on this diet,  and there are many options available, but you can also go with the companies package that was developed just for this purpose.  Here’s a sampling of what the package would include, divided up by meal.

Nutrisystem Vegetarian Breakfasts: Most of the morning foods are meatless so this really is not a problem at all.  There are pancakes, muffins, cereals, bars, scones, oatmeal, strudel, etc.  You’re asked to add a healthful side to your meals, so you have the control as to whether you want to add fruit, veggies, or dairy. The company gives you suggestions, but ultimately it’s up to you.

Nutrisystem Vegetarian Or Meatless Lunches: Meatless or vegetarian lunch options include minestrone soup, black beans and rice, cheese tortellini, fettuccine alfredo, mashed potatoes, etc. You can add a nice salad to any of these options too.  I have to tell you that sometimes I’ll eat the dinner options for lunch as they don’t differ much in terms of calories carbs, or fat, but I find the selection to be wider and the foods a bit more substantial.

Nutrisystem Veggie Dinners:  Veggie dinner options include vegetarian chili, macaroni and cheese, vegetable fajitas, vegetable lasagna, pasta fagioli, mushroom risotto, and cheese pizza.  Again, you’re allowed to add salad, veggies, fruit, or dairy, as long as these things are healthy choices.

Snacks And Desserts:  Most all of the snacks and desserts options fall under the vegetarian category.  There are a lot to choose from, including the plan’s brownies, strawberry shortcake, peanut butter cookies, chocolate cake, and biscotti. There are also pretzels, chips, and snack mixes.

So how do these things taste? Most are pretty good.  Particular standouts for me are the cereal, oatmeal, muffins, veggie chili, risotto, cheese pizza, and cheese tortellini as far as the larger meals go.  I really like the biscotti, brownies and pretzels as far as the desserts and snacks go.  Also remember that they do allow you to add your own sides, so this does give you a lot more variety and control.

The meals are freshly prepared, and many include fresh fruit and salad.

Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating’s Kansas City franchise is owned by Sue Herrin and Darryl Vennard. The wife-husband team sold more than million of wine during their 20 year-tenure in the high-end fine wine business. Meeting Seattle Sutton and learning about her mission and business inspired Herrin and Vennard to make a career change.

“Seattle Sutton has made a great difference in so many people’s lives,” explained Vennard. “This really attracted Sue and me to the business. After spending time with Seattle, learning about her standards, reading testimonials of her clients and experiencing first-hand her passion for helping people to eat healthfully, we knew she was someone with whom we wanted to work.”

Added Herrin: “We all struggle to eat right, and with so many American’s losing the battle of the bulge – many suffering from Type II diabetes or cardiac woes — because of unhealthy eating habits, we couldn’t think of a better time to join the fight against obesity and poor nutrition.”

Founder and CEO Seattle Sutton, R.N., BSN, praised the new franchisees. “We’re very careful–some would say picky–about awarding franchises because we have be sure our standards will be met. After getting to know Sue and Darryl, I’m so glad to be able to work with them. They share our mission and have an incredible devotion to customer service and conducting business in the right way. I know they will exceed our expectations.”

Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating is the front-runner in science-based Home Meal Replacement. Other replacement companies run the gamut from gourmet to powder. Customers respond, because home meal replacement is one of the fastest-growing segments of the food industry, with sales of over billion per year.

Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating follows a simple format. Twenty-one meals per week are provided each customer, who selects either a 1,200 or 2,000 calorie per day meal-plan option. Another feature that sets these meals apart from other home delivery plans is that Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating uses fresh fruit and vegetables, and features healthy renditions of many popular dishes, such as pizza, oven fried chicken, and chili. The portion controlled menu also provides variety since it never repeats the same meal within a five-week period.

In addition to furthering weight loss, Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating is very helpful for Type II diabetics–many of whom reduce or eliminate their need for medication while on the program–and for cardiac patients, people with eating disorders, seniors, nursing mothers, and other adults who want or need the convenience of not having to prepare meals.

The cost of 21 meals is roughly 9. Unlike other meal replacement programs, Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating customers pay on a weekly basis rather than months in advance.

The Kansas City franchise will create 35 to 50 new jobs in the KC area over the next two years. The first distribution location will open in early July, with several more to follow almost immediately.

Seattle Sutton’s Healthy Eating was founded by Seattle Sutton, a registered nurse, in 1985 and began franchising in 1996.
