I have a debate in my speech and debate class about schools starting later in the day. Unfortunatly, we got chosen as the negative side, meaning we have to argue that schools shouldn’t start later in the day. Can anybody tell me where I can find articles or support for my side?

Can someone help me with suggestions for healthy foods to eat now that I’m starting to work out?

Question by jennnnn: Can someone help me with suggestions for healthy foods to eat now that I’m starting to work out?
My problem is I’m a picky eater and I really don’t like very many different types of foods even though I have tried them. I really don’t like anything green: lettuce, broccoli, peas, you name it if it’s green I don’t like the taste of it. I don’t eat red meat either.

My favorite foods to eat have been the pastas like lasagna and spaghetti and especially alfredo but I know those are probably the fattening and heavy foods that I should stay away from.

I just want to work out, tone up and get into shape and maybe drop about 10 or 20 pounds. But I am having a hard time with healthy foods to eat that actually taste good too. Any suggestions?

Since you are picky you should see a nutrionist so they can help you form a diet with foods you enjoy. You can even start Weight Watchers because you can eat almost anything on there, just in small amounts.

If you are planning on opening a food outlet, why not make it a healthy one? Statistics show that around twenty-four million adults in the UK are overweight and many health risks can be dramatically reduced by adopting a healthier diet. Current trends point to an increasing amount of food being prepared and eaten outside the home. Therefore, when opening a food outlet the caterer is in a position of influence. Whether you are opening a food outlet in a college or staff canteen, a local cafe, takeaway or fast food restaurant, you could be serving the same clients on several days of the week, which means you will be serving up a significant portion of their daily diet.

Today, many customers are seeking healthier options. A bad diet is now known to increase the risk of many cancers as well as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, tooth decay and osteoporosis. It surely makes sense when opening a food outlet to consider serving healthy choices and to make all your food as healthy as possible. It is possible to serve healthier food without compromising on taste and also while saving money at the same time. For example, you could reduce the amount of salt and fat in your cooking and increase the use of tasty herbs, such as basil, chives and oregano.

You could increase the amount of rice or pasta you use and at the same time reduce the quantity of rich sauces. Carbohydrates such as rice, noodles and pasta are cheap and filling and you could offer wholegrain varieties as an option, although these tend not to be too popular. Use more pasta and vegetables and less meat in your lasagne and make pizzas with a thicker base and use less cheese. You can serve extra vegetables, salad and bread with your main dishes and use more rice and less curry, or more potato and less meat in Shepherd’s pie. Thick home-made vegetable soups and casseroles are especially popular in winter, being satisfying and filling and they are full of vitamins and goodness, while also being relatively low in calories.

If you serve sandwiches in your food outlet, you can offer wholemeal or granary bread (so much tastier than boring white!) and reduce the amount of butter or mayonnaise, which are very high in fat. Low fat or olive oil based spreads could also be offered, along with a choice of crisp and tasty salad ingredients, lean meats and fish.

For desserts you could offer delicious fresh fruit salads, sorbets or crumble with an oat topping. Baked apples or pears with half-fat cream are very tasty and popular dishes. So it can be seen that serving healthy food does not equate to boring and with a little imagination it is possible when opening a food outlet to conjure up some very tasty healthy options for your customers, who will show their appreciation by coming back time and time again to sample your delicious fare!

Is raw food really good for your health? Many people want to know the answer to this question, as the raw food diet getting a lot of attention of the last several years.

Quite simply, the diet most people eat today does not lend itself to get long-term health. Many people eat a diet rich in meat and dairy products, and therefore don’t achieve good health later in life.

The reason that raw food diet is so good for your health is that they contain enzymes, what your body needs to digest its’ food well. Quite simply, the only foods where enzymes are found is raw food because anytime you cook foods, the enzymes are cooked right out of it.

Only way to get enzymes is to eat your food raw and unooked; anytime you can cook food over a certain temperature, the enzymes are cooked out of it. This is why eating at a diet rich in raw food is so good for you.

Most raw food health advocates suggest you eat a diet with about 75% of your food being raw. Another great tip when eating raw food is to eat only raw food in the morning and at night. Quite simply, these times are the times that your body likes best to digest its food and cleanse its’ system.

When you put cooked food in your body, it has to spend that time trying to digest this food, and that’s why often times wake up more tired when you get up then when you went to bed; your body just spent the whole night digesting the cooked food, and had to work extremely hard to achieve this.

When you eat foods without enzymes the body has to manufacture its’ own digestive enzymes to aid in the digestion process because it’s not receiving it through it’s foods; when you get get it through your foods naturally, the body doesn’t have to work nearly as hard.

When you spend a lifetime eating cooked food, the pancreas wells up to at least twice its normal size. Hopefully these raw food health tips will help you get on the road to good health starting today. You are about to embark on an incredible adventure; good luck with your new raw food ways.

You’re a third of the way there. You are an expert in fitness and you can be a personal trainer in your center if you want to.

The next things you would want to do are obviously save up the money or get a loan to buy/rent yourself a building. Then you are going to have to buy all the exercise equipment to fill it up. These will be your two biggest costs in setting up your own fitness center.

Depending on how busy things get, you are going to need to hire some help. At first you should be fine doing it on your own, though.

Finally, you are going to want to advertise, advertise, advertise. Get as many people to know about your gym as possible. Let them know why they should come to you instead of the YMCA or other places that offer the same services, etc. You need to brand yourself with something unique or special that you offer to give people an incentive. Whether you offer lower monthly fees than other places in your area, free personal fitness help and advice, or whatever it takes to make people think you are better than your competition.

These days there are stories almost every day on the TV news and in the newspapers about food that has been recalled because of ecoli or some other contamination. This has spurred many of us to shop and cook more carefully for our families. If you want to take a step beyond buying just safe ingredients for your familie’s cooking, then you’ll investigate truly healthy cooking with organics.

When I talk about organics, some people think that I’m just talking just about produce. That’s not true; there are now organic versions of many animal products available also.

I advocate switching to organic ingredients for your cooking because most produce is sprayed with pesticides and grown with chemical fertilizers, Animal foods can contain growth hormones and antibiotics.

The hormones can cause premature maturing of children. Also, it’s a fact that bacteria are increasingly becoming resistant to antibiotics. Scientists say that one of the reasons that bacteriia have become so resistant to antibiotics is because of all the antibiotics in our food.

Before buying organic ingredients, it’s normal for people to ask one or more of the following questions;

1) How can I replace my whole menu with organic ingredients overnight?

Won’t I pay a premium for organic ingredients?

How can I determine that an ingredient that I’m looking at is a genuine organic?

The short answer to question #1 is, “you don’t have to”. I recently read a book by Kevin Trudeau called,” Natural Cures (they don’t want you to know about)”. In it, Kevin recommends changing one ingredient of your meals at a time to organic until eventually all of your cooking is with organic ingredients. I experimeted with this technique and discovered that the my family made the transition to organics a lot more easily then I expected. So far, everything that I eat for breakfast is organic and my other meals are made up of more than half organic ingrediants.

The answer to question #2 is that unfortunately, organic ingredients usually will cost more. The number of people that buy organic products has increased, but the numbers haven’t increased enough to cause economies of scale in the production and sale of of organic ingredients.

Even though organic ingredients cost more, there are ways to bring these costs down.

A good way to save money is to do as much shopping as possible at a farmer’s market. Almost every town has a seasonal farmer’s market. Some big cities even have a year round farmer’s market. Prices are lower because you are buying directly from the farmer. Usually, you can only buy fruits, vegetables, spices and eggs at these markets, but you should be able to beat the non- organic prices in the supermarkets.

Another way to get your costs down is to shop at discount chains because many of them now have organic departments. Even the big guys like Wal-Mart have jumped on the organic bandwagon.

Another sure way to cut costs of your healthy cooking is to scratch cook more often. A good example is soup. Canned soup in the store usually has a lot of salt and other non- organic ingredients. Don’t buy the package of chicken thighs. Buy an organic bird and cut it up yourself. Don’t buy the salad in the bag. Whenever possible, don’t cook your vegebles, instead steam them if you have a recipe that says that they should be cooked. Steaming them will leave in more of the vitamins and minerals than high heat cooking.

Remember, every time someone touches your food, it will cost more.

The answer to question #3 is simple. To know if an ingredient you’re looking at is organic look for the label that says, ” USDA organic “. This means that the food has been certified by the USDA as being organic in origin.

nutrisystem has alot of fiber in it, and can cause stomach problems. a friend of mine had to stop it. be careful when you are on it .
