Get Kids Eating Right In the New Year!

Mesa, Arizona (PRWEB) January 5, 2004

Katheryn Warren, mother of a four-year-old, struggles to lose the extra weight put on by years of yo-yo dieting. She saw her father lose the battle with diabetes. Not wishing her son to go through his life with the same unhealthy eating patterns and endanger his health, she and her husband put their creative talents to work and are now producing a series of live-action, 30-minute “Food Safari” home videos and DVDs designed to encourage little ones to eat fruits and vegetables.

In a time when childhood obesity is at an all-time high, kids eat fast food on a daily basis, and weight-related childhood diseases are affecting younger and younger children (including heart disease, diabetes and high cholesterol), “Food Safari” is designed to curb this negative trend by making fresh and healthy foods attractive and enticing to kids. “Food Safari” recently was named a winner and “Hot New Product” from iparneting.com and received the prestigious Seal of Approval from the National Parenting Center.

Now, children can join the “Food Safari” to find out more about where healthy foods are grown, harvested processed and packaged, and how those foods affect our bodies as Yum Yum Studios presents “Food Safari: Breakfast” and “Food Safari: Lunch,” direct-to-video and DVD. Using puppets, live-action, music, rap, rhymes, animation and actual factory tours “Food Safari” unveils the complicated and fascinating behind the scenes look at food production. Young viewers will delight in learning how cereal, milk, juice, bread, peanut butter, maple syrup and are created!

Katheryn Warren and her husband Robert founded Yum Yum Studios in 2001 to produce educational videos for children that motivate kids to make healthy food choices. Their first series, “Baby Gourmet,” received rave reviews and awards including the prestigious Dr. Toy’s 10 Best Children’s Videos and twelve Telly Awards for excellence in video programming in categories ranging from entertainment to education to health and medicine.

Recommended for ages 2-6, “Food Safari” is available on VHS for a suggested retail price of .99. The DVD retails for .99. For more information or to order products, call 1-800-380-1213 or visit www.mybabygourmet.com.

Diet And Exercise Get Rid Of Cellulite

Ask most people which part of their body they are most unhappy with and would like to change, and many will answer ‘get rid of the belly’. A flat, toned stomach is one of the most admired parts of being in shape – it makes you look fit, healthy and sexy. A flat tummy is also much younger looking – look at the many common terms for extra tummy fat: middle-aged spread, beer belly, pot belly, spare tyre, love handles, muffin top, etc. Diet And Exercise Get Rid Of Cellulite

A flat stomach is attainable for most of us, but requires a three-pronged attack:

1. Aerobic exercise and a weight-loss diet

2. A specific diet avoiding certain foods

3. Core strengthening and toning exercises

1. Weight loss program

Just doing hundreds of sit-ups will not give you a six-pack, you first have to address any abdominal fat which covers those much desired muscles.

We all have that lovely grid of abdominal muscles on our bodies, you just need to reveal them!

You need to do some form of aerobic exercise for 20 mins 3 times a week, and follow a healthy weight loss diet plan to get rid of any excess weight.

2. Abs diet

There are certain foods that are recognised as not being helpful to a flat tum. They can cause bloating or gas or water retention. Diet And Exercise Get Rid Of Cellulite

Foods to avoid for a flat stomach are: processed meals, high fat foods, high sugar foods, high salt foods, alcohol and for some people certain beans, and also some vegetables from the cabbage family, such as brussels sprouts.

For a flat stomach you need to eat a healthy balanced diet: whole grains, lean protein, leafy green vegetables, berries, yoghurt, olive oil and Omega 3 rich foods.

If you suffer from bloating it is advisable to seek advice from your doctor as this can be an underlying symptom of more serious complaints. If you haven’t done any exercise for a while, or if you have any doubts about your health, it’s always a good idea to talk to your doctor before you start.

3. Core strengthening exercises

No exercise will spot reduce fat, but following a program of abdominal exercises will help you gain strength, tone and definition, which will become visible once you have lost any excess belly fat.

You need to do different exercises to work your front, lower and side(obliques) abdominal muscles and to help strengthen your core strength overall. The bonus is that as well as toning your abs you will strengthen your back muscles, helping you avoid injuries.

Stick with the six-pack diet and you will soon be reaching for your bikini! My next article will cover the best ab toning and strengthening exercises. Diet And Exercise Get Rid Of Cellulite

Extreme pain in lower back right side, it catches causeing pain
Why should we eat a balanced diet ?

No matter how much temptation and cajoling, we couldn’t get her to eat an Easter egg. At work, Easter is another excuse to eat chocolate and for most of us, we unfurl the Easter egg foil and easily chomp on some chocolate. But the office health nut instead munches on a carrot – about as close to the Easter bunny as they’ll get. But what if they ate too many carrots? Or too many bran muffins? They are actually damaging their body in a way they may not realise; believing advice they read or heard and perhaps taking that advice too far. Yes, it is possible to be too healthy. There is a way though to have a healthy diet – one based on knowing what is reliable advice, and knowing how to follow it.

—-What is too healthy? Why go to extremes? —-

A diet that is too healthy means eating only a limited selection of foods specifically for their purported health properties. The lady who refused the Easter egg may be one who thinks that she will live happy and healthy in a body free from ‘bad food’ – she may even snack continually on carrots for better eyesight. Obsessive behaviour is one reason why people may go to extremes in their healthy eating. Other reasons include a health scare (at risk for osteoporosis), or an excuse to overindulge (red wine and dark chocolate). Many healthy eating extremes are also triggered by the concept of health-crazing.

—What is health-crazing?—

The evidence of health-crazing can be seen on checkout conveyor belts; punnets of blueberries, cans of salmon, and boxes of green tea. ‘So what?’ you might say, ‘What is the difference between the familiar food pyramid and the blurb on a box of tea about the powers of antioxidants?’ Basically, health-crazing is when diet is focused on one food rather than a total approach to health through a balanced diet. Health-crazing isn’t necessarily bad unless it influences the fundamental balance of nutrients within the body.

—When health-crazing goes too far—

Even those of us who aren’t strict with everything in their diet may tend to favour one food. Over a period of about eight months, Suzie* ate three bran muffins each day, and a bowl of bran cereal for breakfast. Sure, she was ‘regular’ but then she was too regular, causing a rectal tear, pain and lethargy. Bran also reduces iron uptake; an explanation for her low haemoglobin level. The solution? She cut down on the bran, and increased so-called ‘stodge’ foods like fats. But what drives the craze that made Suzie fixate on bran? Or an office colleague gulp down their morning blueberry smoothie? The answer is money. Why else would someone steal an entire blueberry field in Canada after the health craze for blueberries reached fever pitch?

The recipe for the smoothie may have come from a women’s magazine, a TV show, or any number of advertisements that bombard us with the latest in food with properties to burn fat, give youth, and arouse libido. But how can you tell if this advice is even genuine?

—What is genuine advice?—

Remember our office colleague at the beginning of the article? Eventually we got her to eat the Easter egg – we used the magic words: ‘Scientists say it’s good for you’. But who are these scientists and can we believe them? There are ways to recognise whether advice used in heath-crazing is genuine.

The hallmarks of dubious advice include…

++ vague source of information – common phrases are mentioned, such as ‘scientists say’ or ‘it has been proven’. There is no reference to who the scientists are, and whether they are from public or private enterprise.

++the entertainment angle – current affairs shows are notorious for their thinly researched stories of magic water and fat loss foods as they know that these topics have sure-fire ratings.

++ marketing angle/money to be made. For example, advertorials about the benefits of high calcium intake from a company that just happens to sell calcium enriched milk.

Genuine advice is…

++ sourced from a thorough study – peer reviewed, trialled and the product/thoery is used over a period of time.

++ endorsed – if a government body also endorses scientific findings then this adds credibility to the discovery. But be wary of endorsement that sounds important but is really just a front for commercial organisations eg the ‘Tobacco Information Service’ run by the Tobacco Merchants Association.

++ able to be researched for yourself – look for a source, such as in a medical journal. Then go and read the full article. Look for how the study was conducted, how many participants, what was the error margin, etc.

Does all this reading and double-checking sound like a lot of effort? Who do we believe? Thankfully there is an answer to a truly healthy diet and it doesn’t involve hard work or sacrifice; it’s about getting the balance right.

The Recommended Daily Intake – RDI – is a proven scientific analysis of all the nutrients the body needs to function at optimal level. Each macronutrient (eg carbohydrate), vitamin (eg Vitamin C) and mineral (Eg Calcium) has a measurement that the body must intake each day, ranging from micrograms to grams. But how do you know if you’re meeting this level, or exceeding it?

Read the labels on the packaging, for example, a slice of typical wholemeal and grain bread has 7% of the RDI for iron. Be aware of which nutrients have an upper limit that must not be exceeded or else adverse health effects may arise. For example, any more than five carrots a day (Vitamin A Carotene) will cause skin to tinge orange. Fat soluble Vitamin A Retinol found in liver and fortified milk, in the short term can cause headaches and vomiting and in the longer term, hair loss and liver damage if consumed in greater quantities than 3000 milligrams a day, which is approx three times the RDI usually caused by exceeding dosages in vitamin supplements.

Being too healthy can be harmful to your health unless you follow genuine advice within scope of the RDI. The key to a truly healthy diet is balance; never ever eat too much of one thing, and allow some indulgences like Easter eggs. After all, the Easter bunny eats carrots, but he eats chocolate too.

More and more people these days are beginning to realize the importance of maintaining their health and fitness. With immense pressure at work place and complications in social life, people do not find time to commit to weight loss regimes. However, there is a solution to this problem and that is by eating the right food. And to eat the right kind of food one must follow the right diet menu.

By following the right diet menu, the person can be physically fit and lose weight if necessary. The most important thing about a weight loss menu is the various types of food that might not interest you at the first place. However, as you go through the weight loss regime, you will understand how important it is to follow the right weight-loss-menu. As you progress in the process, you will naturally start liking the food, which will keep you fit and fine.

A valuable weight loss menu will contain foods high in protein, fatty acids and fruits and vegetables. The menu will also contain foods that are low in sugar and fat. Simple carbohydrate foods will also be included in the menu in order to strengthen your body and by increasing your body’s metabolism. These foods in the menu will be easy to obtain and very simple to prepare and serve. More complicated the process becomes, greater the chance of failure is.

The best way to design a weight loss menu is by designing it yourself.

It becomes easier for you to stick to the menu if you include the foods that you like to eat, provided they are low fat foods. The foods should be relative to your lifestyle and budget. Including many vegetables and fruits in the weight loss menu is very important. Whole grains and products rich in protein should be included in the menu. Be sure about not including processed foods, even if they contain a health label on them.

White flour products should strictly be avoided. It contains carbohydrates that can easily convert into sugar in the blood after consumption. Weight gain has been linked to products that are high in carbohydrates. This can result in problem concerned to the production of insulin and will also cause the pancreas to overwork.

When you decide to include a food in your weight loss menu, make sure the food is high in nutritional value and it is natural. These two factors should always be followed while choosing food for the weight loss menu. Also avoid high energy foods if you are aiming to lose weight. Follow these instructions and build the best weight loss menu to lose weight easily.

Your Guide to Delicious Healthy Foods – Learn How to Eat Right and Feel Terrific

Your Guide to Delicious Healthy Foods – Learn How to Eat Right and Feel Terrific

Do you feel run down, sluggish or just not as energetic as you once did?

Do you try to alleviate your listlessness with coffee, sugar and other unhealthy products that probably do nothing other than give you a quick fix of energy and then make you feel worse than before?

Everyone knows that a proper diet is essential to maintaining a healthy energy level. Unfortunately though, not everyone fully understands what is involved in creating a proper diet and how it easy it is to keep.

A healthy diet doesn’t mean eating only bland salads and removing breads, pastas, sweets, soda, cake and other goodies, it means building a balanced diet that allows you to treat yourself without sacrificing your long term health.

When most people hear the words diet, they normally think of green leaves and little else. Images of healthy eaters are never smiling and who can get excited about the prospect of sitting down to a meal that’s devoid of flavor, calories and red meat?

At least that’s what I thought a diet was before I was cornered into building one for myself. Now, I know better. I know how great it is to finally make it through a meeting without falling asleep. I know how fantastic it feels to be alive and awake first thing in the morning. I know how marvelous it feels to have the energy to do anything I want.

I used to be lazy. I used to be one of the laziest people currently alive. I’m not exaggerating. If you looked up lazy in the dictionary, you’d see a huge picture of me.

I never left my house unless I absolutely had to and I only picked up my cell phone if I knew who was calling and what they wanted. I didn’t return messages and couldn’t find the energy to respond to an email.

My laziness didn’t come from my lack of desire, but from not having enough energy to get my lazy butt in motion. I wanted to live an exciting, eventful life, I just couldn’t figure out how to wake myself up long enough to do any of the things I wanted to do.

And on top of it all, I had the worst eating habits of anyone you probably have ever met.

My normal day went something like this: I’d wake up at 7am and require at least one cup of coffee to get me moving. I rarely ate breakfast at home, instead, I’d have a snack of some sort along with another cup of coffee at work. For lunch I always ate a ham and cheese sandwich and like clockwork I had my third cup of coffee halfway though my afternoon. For dinner, I would normally pick up takeout.

Looking back upon my eating habits, I couldn’t believed that I thought I was eating healthy. There was no part of my diet that was balanced or wholesome, just empty calories and processed foods. It’s no wonder I was so lethargic.

The funny thing is, at the time I didn’t realize that my eating habits were so poor. It wasn’t until I started dating my current girlfriend that I saw how bad my habits had become.

Like any normal couples, Linda and I based our relationship around food. We went out for dinner, had picnics in the park and enjoyed sharing a Sunday brunch.

It seemed like the more time we spent together, the more time we spent eating together. Given my intense laziness, a perfect date was staying in, ordering a pizza and watching a movie. So we did that a lot.

Looking back upon the events of the time, I’m sure Linda started picking up on my poor nutritional habits right from the beginning. There were subtle suggestions like asking, “isn’t this the second time today you’ve had french fries?” or “is that your third helping of bacon?”
