Morning Stories podcasts bring people together. Read Stacia’s story –

hello gentleman,
i have been a fan of your podcast for the last few months, and . . .. two of your recent stories have changed my life. betsy bunn’s marshall jr and louise and erica ferencik’s behind the blue ribbon . i just wanted you to know the story.

for the last 12 years i have been carrying around a ball of guilt and hatred for a person with whom i had a relationship in high school. all of the terrible things that can happen between two hormonally charged teens who think they are adults happened, leaving me hurt, confused and lonely. for many years i have said that if i ever saw him again i would, at the very least read him the riot act, and at the very worst physically hurt him just so he could know what i felt like all these years. i told myself that doing so would bring me closure.
i listened to behind the blue ribbon and must have listened to the opening introduction 50 times. "so often when we talk about closure what we really mean is getting revenge. " that made me think about my definition of closure and how wrong i might be. i did want closure on that chapter but i didn’t even know how to define closure much less achieve it.

the next weeks podcast brought marshall jr and louise: "if there is anything that is primarily important in the world it is the ability and willingness to be part of each other’s lives. i don’t think we try very hard. i wonder if we ever will." those words brought me to tears. i literally sat down on the curb and cried for almost a half an hour. i realized that he probably did the best he could have and it simply wasn’t enough, my best at that time simply wasn’t good enough. we were hurt and broken children forced to make decisions that were light years ahead of our maturity.

later that week i was online at the popular site myspace, when i accidentally clicked on the link for our high school. the first name that came up was his. "the ability and willingness to be part of each others lives" rang in my ears. i sent him a cautious email and the reply was genuine. we emailed several times over a couple of days and finally my phone rang. it was him. we hadn’t spoken in nearly 12 years but i still remembered the sound of his voice, he said i sounded the same as well. then what was said next changed my life. "i have been looking for you for years, to tell you one thing. i am sorry for what happened. for the last 10 years if anyone said your name or a name even close to yours i felt myself get hot, like i had just been sent to the principal’s office. i have thought about you and what happened every day and i am sorry." with that i got my closure. i got to tell him how i felt, he got to tell me, we both understood, we were both at peace. the past stopped haunting me as it has him. i found the scared hurt boy that i knew had grown up to be a wonderful caring person who is passionate about life and making a difference in the world.

i just wanted to thank you for your show and for the profound difference it has made in my life. not only have i gotten the closure i needed i have also gained a new old friend. we have talked or emailed nearly every day since then and have plans to meet up again as soon as we can. thank you for changing my life.

this is stacia again, several weeks ago you broadcast a letter of mine. the one about the guy from high school that i had a very complicated relationship with and made contact with after hearing "behind the blue ribbon" and "marshal jr and louise". we have continued to talk every day since we made contact and it has been a wonderful gift in my life. i just wanted to let you know that we will be meeting up a week from today in chicago. it will be the first time in over 12 years that we will see each other face to face. i can’t wait. i hope to be able to send along some pictures of the reunion so you can put a face to the letter. i just wanted to thank you again for your podcast.
thank you for what you do

the trip was, well, it was wonderful but like many things in life complicated. we had five great days together and really got to know one another again. lots of trips to used record stores and one fantastic art bookstore. some really wonderful dinners at coffee houses, nicholas is vegan and it was great to eat such wonderful healthy food. although it wasn’t all twigs and bark as my dad always says, we did eat a pizza in the middle of the afternoon on a bench at the beach. i think it was the best pizza i have ever had, … and the conversation was wonderful, and healing for both of us. it was also easy and completely free flowing and usually lasted until the both of us were drifting off to sleep. i got to see his band practice and it was amazing. have you ever seen someone you care about doing something that they totally love? that moment when there seems to be light shining from them and they are totally in their place in the world? i can tell you that it is truly one of the most beautiful experiences in life.

you may be wondering where the complicated part comes into play. that would be at the airport. all the way there we talked about everything but the fact that i was leaving. when we got there it was a total madhouse, being the end of the labor day weekend. we decided that he would walk in with me but that i would check in by myself. we set my things down and hugged each other goodbye and just couldn’t seem to let go. i started to cry and nicholas kept saying ‘shh, we are going to see each other again soon, i promise. i promise not to disappear again’ and then we both said the three words that strike fear in the hearts of all, . . . ‘i love you’ funny thing was we said it at the same time.

whatever happens from here on out i do know this, i have found a truly amazing friend again and for that i am so grateful. and you had a hand in it. i plan to keep you posted from time to time if you don’t mind.

take care tony,

Wyoming state representatives have voted to create a doomsday government task force in the event the state must self-sufficiently operate during a national economic or political collapse.

Passing on its first reading Friday, House Bill 85 would permit an investigation on issues like alternative currency, food distribution, a possible state military draft, and obtaining military aircraft.

The bill faces two more House votes before it goes to the Senate for approval.

‘To put your head in the sand and think that nothing bad’s going to happen, and that we have no obligation to the citizens of the state of Wyoming to at least have the discussion, is not healthy,’ Rep Lorraine Quarberg, a Republican of Thermopolis said according to the Casper Star Tribune.

The amendment sponsored by state Rep David Miller, R-Riverton, is said to be in precaution, notably at a time when the national debt exceeds trillion.

The house vote came the same day the Bipartisan Policy Center, a Washington DC-based think tank, released a report cautioning the national debt limit’s own doomsday to be closer than previously expected.

The BPC expects it to hit .5 trillion between late November and early January of next year.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner testified before the Senate Budget Committee last week saying the US will reach its debt limit ‘significantly’ after September 30 when the fiscal years ends, but also ‘before the end of the calendar year,’ according to a Politico report.

The BPC credits the skyrocketing figures to unexpectedly low corporate tax revenues and the extension of the payroll tax holiday.

‘I don’t think there’s anyone in this room today that would come up here and say that this country is in good shape, that the world is stable and in good shape, because that is clearly not the case,’ Rep Quarberg said Friday for the bill.

Like other states, Wyoming’s Department of Homeland Security has a management plan in place but that plan doesn’t cover extreme national emergencies such as total government meltdowns.

Not the first state to propose the brainstorming of alternative currencies in recent years, at least 11 others have proposed legislation for their own legal tender in the instance federal dollars become worthless.

‘I think we’re in the process of inflating a dollar bubble that could be very devastating,’ said North Carolina Representative Glen Bradley, R-Youngsville, early last year during his own legislative proposal according to the News Observer.

In addition to North Carolina, lawmakers in Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Utah and Washington have also proposed legislation in accepting currency of silver and or gold.

The proposal of the hard metals and not paper bills follows in accordance with the US Constitution, in Article 1, Section 10, reading ‘No state shall … coin money; emit bills of credit; make any thing but gold and silver coin a tender in payment of debts…’

None of the states’ proposed bills have thus far been successful.

Wyoming’s proposed task force would be made up, among others, of state lawmakers, Wyoming’s Department of Homeland Security director, the state’s attorney general and its National Guard’s adjutant general.

The proposed bill originally appropriated ,000 for the emergency task force but was cut in half earlier this week by the Joint Appropriations Committee.

New Picture Book, A Hungry Lion in My Tummy, Reaches Health Clubs About Healthy Eating in a Fun Way

A Healthy Food Adventure that will keep the children turning the page!

San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) March 9, 2010

A Hungry Lion in My Tummy, picture book released in November 2009, geared for preschoolers and young elementary children, brings into focus healthy eating and the benefits of each food group mentioned. Athletic clubs, educators and parents have taken notice to this book and its timeliness with America’s concern for obese children.

A Hungry Lion in My Tummy takes young children on a food adventure that will excite parents because of the reinforcement of vegetables. Recommendations for establishing healthy eating in children is approximately age two. A Hungry Lion in My Tummy reveals a variety of fruits, vegetables and even taps into protein. This book can be used as a tool at home or any event setting to talk about the importance of fruits and vegetables.

Of course, fruit is usually the easiest to go down the hatch for preschoolers, but they can learn to eat the right vegetables raw or cooked. It’s about offering healthy food choices and now those choices can be associated with a lion that can perform because of what he eats. The ending is brilliant as it brings home the message that if the character feeds the lion little bites of all the chosen good foods, the lion will be strong and healthy.

Cheryl Vollmer, the author of A Hungry Lion in My Tummy, was able to teach her daughter, as a preschooler, a lifestyle of healthy eating by not ordering her meals from the children’s menu that consist of fried foods and French fries. “It can be done. Feed your children what you eat and watch them expand their tastes for a variety of healthy foods.” Cheryl’s passion is communicating positive messages through creative writing, workshops, special events and using her own experiences as a mother to benefit children.

Cheryl Vollmer attended an outreach workshop for San Antonio’s PBS station, KLRN, at one of the local schools, sharing her book (A Hungry Lion in My Tummy), sharing writing techniques and the importance of healthy eating. In April and May she will be a visiting author for Spectrum Athletic Clubs (Kids Club) where she will read A Hungry Lion in My Tummy and sample foods, as listed in the story, with the children. Sharing her encouragement and passion for children, Cheryl also teaches children table etiquette and manners/social skills, www.mannersrock.com, in her hometown hoping to have a positive impact on the children and provide them with skills they will use for the rest of their lives.

New Picture Book Helps Kids Learn About Gardening, Counting and Healthy Food

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) March 4, 2008

Parents who want to encourage their young children to eat healthy foods can soon have a new picture book to help them in their efforts. “Chipper Kids: Counting in the Crazy Garden” (JenPrint, 2008) highlights the activities of Arnold Chipper, a teddy who loves to make “food” from his garden. The problem is he can’t get his little brother Albert and friend Maria to eat any of his messy meals! Will they eventually try one of his crazy creations? Or will they convince Arnold to use his garden in a different way? “Chipper Kids: Counting in the Crazy Garden” highlights healthy eating while it also shows young readers how to count from one to ten. It is the first book in the Chipper Kids™ series.

“It was tough for me to get my children to eat healthy meals, so I created a story for them where the characters were given truly crazy ‘snacks’,” says the book’s author, Margarette Burnette. “By the time I got to the end of the tale, my kids had a new appreciation for good food. At that point, I knew the story could be a book for other children to enjoy.” Burnette blogs about her experiences at www.ChipperKids.com, a web site that also offers free games and coloring pages for kids.

When she’s not blogging, Burnette is a health and parenting writer. Her articles have appeared in Parenting, Pregnancy, Essence and several regional parenting publications. She is an active member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA) and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI). She lives outside of Atlanta, Georgia, with her husband and two children, ages four and six.

“Chipper Kids: Counting in the Crazy Garden” (JenPrint Publications, hardcover, .95) will be available in traditional bookstores and through online retailers in March 2008.

JenPrint creates material to entertain, encourage, and educate. To schedule an interview with the author, please contact Lauren Bradford at 404-353-0772.
