Lower your sodium intake and do lot’s of cardio, make sure that you drink lots of water to stay hydrated. Make sure that you don’t each or drink 6 hours before your competition to have a slimmer stomach.

I followed the recipe for the Light New York Cheesecake from Cook’s Illustrated: The Best Light Recipe and ended up with something so creamy and rich tasting, but knowingly 1/4 the fat and almost 1/2 the calories of the original NY style!
Substitutions that were key were low fat cream cheese, non-fat yogurt cheese (drained yogurt) and low fat (I used non-fat) cottage cheese. All blended up with some orange rind (instead of the lemon rind in the recipe) and a few eggs, and voila. A brief high (10 min) then low temp in the oven for 1.5 hours, lots of cooling time and an overnight chill in the fridge ensured it was set.
My uncle and his family (2 cousins included) are in town until the end of the week and tonight we’re all congregating at my aunt’s for dinner. My Aunt Rosa LOVES cheesecake, but is also scarily health conscious. In a brief convo I mentioned I’m bringing cheesecake (I heard a gasp followed by the exclamation: "I LOVE cheesecake") and when I emphasized it was low fat, and lower calorie, I sensed her heart stop (momentarily) before racing with excitement.
Needless to say, when I mentioned that I tried some for breakfast to make sure it was decent, she let out a whine because that would be the lesser amount I would bring over.
LOL, I have a feeling that I’ll be making this soon again.

Just for the plating I put some fresh blueberries and a sliced apricot, as well as some raspberry sauce. But seriously, I just indulged in the (low fat!) cheesecake alone… 1/4 of the 9" pan… good breakfast… 😉

People come up to me all the time and tell me how hard it is for them to build lower abs. After discussing a few things with them, I soon found out that they didn’t follow a complete fitness program…no wonder they were having problems.

Any successful fitness plan would involve working the entire body and not just your abdominal muscles. Also, exercising like there was no tomorrow is never going to be enough; eating right plays a big role as well.

Unfortunately, many people don’t realize the truth about six pack abs: you can have all the workout equipment on the planet, hire the best fitness instructors, sign up with all the prestigious gyms, and still not build lower abs if you don’t include ALL 3 steps in your fitness program:

1. Follow a low fat diet;

2. Perform regular cardiovascular exercise; and

3. Execute targeted lower abs exercises.

Doing just one is OK. But that wouldn’t get you fast results, would it. Think about how quick you can reach your goal when you do all three.

Decreasing your fat intake will allow your body to burn stored body fat. You would need to get rid of the layers of fat in your midsection for your muscles to show.

To build lower abs successfully, include a lot of whole grains, lean meats, and a few good fats in your meals. Here are some food items that you can stock up on the next time you go to the supermarket:

* Leafy greens
* Colorful veggies (e.g. carrots, peas, cauliflower, bell peppers, asparagus)
* Brown rice
* Tofu
* Fresh fruits (e.g. berries, apples, bananas, oranges)
* Beans
* Nuts

You shouldn’t even consider starchy, highly processed, and extremely fatty foods in your diet. These are just a few things you need to avoid:

* Junk food
* Deep-fried foods
* Soda
* Candy
* Alcohol

On top of your diet, you must also adhere to a regular cardio routine. To build lower abs fast, you must do cardio exercises at least twice a week. With cardio in your program, you can increase your metabolism and develop muscle simultaneously.

Walking, running, biking, swimming, yoga, and martial arts are just a few examples of full cardio exercises. If you feel like changing it up a bit, try out a workout video. If you don’t want to shell out a lot of cash, you can easily watch cardio webisodes online or even rent from your local video store.

The final step to build lower abs is directly going for the muscle group itself.

Full body crunches and regular crunches are two of the easiest, most effective core-specific exercises you can do. Go for 3 sets of each exercise at 20-25 reps per set. Doing these exercises at least 3 times a week will definitely do you a lot of good.

Reading a lot on this subject, I found out how many unproductive myths there are about how we gain and how we should lose fat! It’s amazing..

For instance, that there is no fat loss magic to doing cardio on an empty stomach. In fact, most trainers “in-the-know” are using intervals instead of slow, boring cardio to help their clients burn fat fast. And honestly, who wants to be doing boring cardio at 6am while their stomach is rumbling? And now, it’s finally discovered that long cardio or aerobic workouts several days a week are the WORST WAY to burn fat.

The fact is we’re burning fat all the time, even while you sit and read Yahoo Answers here. So you don’t need working out every day, but it’s just enough to do 3 short home fitness workouts per week of 45 minutes with no cardio at all…

Another thing is that those crappy infomercial abs gizmos WILL NOT burn your belly fat or give you a flatter stomach and six pack abs. But you’re going to burn belly fat 5 times faster by using certain full body exercises that don’t actually target your abs at all…
