Raymond was complaining that he only got a quarter of a strawberry for 😛

We had lunch at Just Fine Food, just to try the vanilla slice, which was pretty good, but the vanilla flavour wasn’t as strong as I’d liked and the custard seemed to be too starchy, and less eggy and creamy. Still pretty good though. While we were there, about an hour, we saw 2 and a half trays sold. Each tray had 48 slices! Amazing.

One of the recipes I’ve been working on for our new issue is just not cooperating. I’ve done eight different iterations of the basic idea, tweaking and changing, going back to the drawing board, reading, starting again.

This happens. Sometimes inspiration comes, but sometimes when I’m struggling with a recipe it’s a sign the basic idea is not good enough. It may be the recipe doesn’t quite fit into the ethos of An Honest Kitchen; the idea itself is not interesting enough; or I just can’t make it delicious enough, given the parameters of healthy, honest food.

The day after I made the decision to ditch this recipe, inspiration struck. I now have a version, which is quite different, but I’m really happy with.

I heard the new commercial for Kashi cereal the other day that claimed “More protein than an egg” and I thought to myself “why wouldn’t you just eat an egg?”. After all you’d be eating REAL food, in it’s simplest and most natural form instead of a product made who knows how long ago, in a factory from GMO ingredients (Soy & Canola) and loads of sugar (a bowl of Kashi contains a little over 3 teaspoons of sugar). An egg would be cheaper, healthier, produce less waste, use less energy and if you purchase it locally or keep your own chickens, it’s much better for your local economy.

I just finished working out and its almost 10pm I have not ate dinner yet so I thought I better eat something because I am a little hungry I will not be going to bed anytime soon probably not till at least 2 am. Just wondering what some healthy options would be to eat for dinner!? I like pasta, and I also was thinking maybe a peanut butter and jelly sandwich? Anyone got any other ideas??! Thanks!!

I like to have a blended mix of things. I use water instead of milk (lactose not good for the muscles). Here is what I drink (organic is best)
put into blender: water, flax seed, hemp hearts, one banana, slice of ginger, mixed berries, oatmeal, and some protein powder (put an egg in instead because protein powder isn’t healthy for you).

A peanut butter and banana sandwich is real good too, but dont use the crap white bread, get some good whole grain organic bread!

hope this helps. Oh and dont forget to blend. Its great when its blended because its easy for your body to absorb and you dont need to break down the food.

So basically you want to replenish your body with good organic food. Make sure you include some protein because that will help your muscles recover.

Pasta is good too but its even better about 2 hours before your workout to give you the energy you need (bananas are also good for energy).
