I need recipes for nutritious menu items. Any help?

Question by Coralee: I need recipes for nutritious menu items. Any help?
I want to lose about 10 lbs, and then maintain a healthier weight by eating consistently healthy. I do NOT eat any seafood at all, so please do not include tuna, shrimp, or any other “fishy” item. I am somewhat of a “flexitarian,” I guess you could say–I eat chicken mostly and beef on occassion (and once in a blue moon, I’ll eat ham or turkey), but I’ve heard that chicken leads to high cholesterol. I want a low fat menu that will also be well-balanced. Any recipes or suggestions? Thanks 🙂
I already drink tons of water–in fact, one of my friends laughed when he saw Tom’s answer because he always jokes that I should be hooked up to an IV of water b/c I drink so much of it every day! (Thanks anyway though Tom!)

p.s. Thanks for nothing Mike–you’re welcome for the undeserved 2 points! lol

If all you want to lose is 10 lbs. increase your water to 2 litres per day. The 10 will drop off in no time.

Cooking tips on substitution of cooking items

Cooking tips on substitution of cooking items

There’s nothing more annoying than buying an entire quart of buttermilk for a recipe that only calls for a small amount. Instead, combine 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or white vinegar, plus enough milk to equal one cup. Stir together and allow to stand for 5 minutes to create “faux buttermilk.” For another option, mix 1 ¾ teaspoon cream of tartar with a cup of milk and let sit for several minutes.

One cup evaporated milk equals about 3 cups whipped.

Light cream and half-and-half can be substituted for each other.

Substitute 3T cocoa plus 3T shortening to equal 1 sq. of unsweetened chocolate.

Cooking tips: To substitute all-purpose flour for cake flour, measure out 1 cup of all-purpose flour, and then remove 2 tablespoons.

When a recipe calls for 1 cup sour milk, combine 1 to 2 tablespoons vinegar or lemon juice and enough milk to measure 1 cup.

You can substitute 1/4 tsp baking soda plus 1/2 tsp cream of tartar for 1 tsp of baking powder.

When your recipe calls for 1 tsp allspice – you can use 1/2 tsp cinnamon and 1 tsp ground cloves.

When the recipe calls for buttermilk and you´re out, add 1 Tablespoon lemon juice or vinegar to 1 cup milk.

Let sit for a few minutes before you use it.

If you don´t have any whipped cream, you can pour a 13 ounce can of evaporated milk in a bowl and chill in the freezer until ice crystals form. Add 1 tsp lemon juice and whip it until it´s stiff.

If you don´t have a rolling pin, fill a jar with cold water and roll on your pastry.

You can substitute 3/4 cup granulated sugar plus 1/4 cup molasses for 1 cup of brown sugar.

Can I Use the Lowe’s 10% movers coupon on multiple items purchased at the same time?

Question by crf4dci: Can I Use the Lowe’s 10% movers coupon on multiple items purchased at the same time?
The coupon says….. Limit one coupon per household. Good for a single purchase of any in-stock or Special Order merchandise only up to $ 5,000 (Maximum discount $ 500).
I forgot to add this would be used on some Lowe’s “priced matched” appliances.

Answer by mps
Yes. The coupon is good for all Stock or Special Order items purchased on the same receipt. However, the discount does not apply to labor for an installation project.

If the store is ‘price matching’ then No. The cash register will accept the coupon but will not give the additional discount. That’s what’s called “double dipping”. Furthermore, now that your coupon has been scanned, it will no longer be valid.

I reccommend saving the coupon for another purchase.
