What are some healthy foods I can take to work if I’m on a diet?

Question by Alice: What are some healthy foods I can take to work if I’m on a diet?
I’m tired of eating the same thing day after day and end up finding myself eating the junk they have at work. I’m hoping you guys can give me some inexpensive ideas for healthy foods/snacks to take to work. I have lost 34 pounds and don’t want working again to stop the weight loss. And, we don’t have a fridge, so everything goes into my cooler.

The easiest I’ve found is fruit and yogurt. Veggies if you like them. They’re all small, great snacks you can buy in bulk and cut up and bring what you need.

What do you think? Answer below!

Championing, volunteering and community spirit was on the menu when The Big Lunch and Volunteer Now joined local community organisations across Enniskillen at Fermanagh House for lunch today.

Wendy Osborne OBE, Chief Executive, Volunteer Now said; “Volunteer Now is delighted to support The Big Lunch as part of Volunteers’ Week 1 – 7 June. Volunteers Week is about celebrating and thanking the many thousands of volunteers who are local heroes in our communities.

“Hundreds of volunteer involving organisations, from grass roots community groups to large charities take part in the Week to raise the profile of their volunteers and the valuable work they do by hosting presentations, celebrations and by simply getting together to celebrate volunteering.

“Having a Big Lunch is one way neighbours and local communities can come together through a simple act of community, friendship and fun and events like these can help encourage more volunteering in your area and even start good local conversations about Time Banking. Volunteer involving organisations can order free resources to help their celebrations at www.volunteernow.co.uk.”

Micheal Mowen, Manager at Oak Healthy Living Centre said; “ Our organisation works with both young and old, and the Big Lunch looks to be a great way of bringing both of these groups together.

“We will definitely be looking into the possibility of holding our own Big Lunch this coming June.”

The Big Lunch is an initiative led by the Eden Project, funded by BIG Lottery Fund and supported by Mastercard, Kingsmill and ASDA. It can be anything from a few neighbours getting together in the garden or on the street, to a full-blown street party with food, music and decoration that quite literally stops the traffic.

The Big Lunch representative in Northern Ireland, Grainne McCloskey said; “We are encouraging people across the UK to get together in their local area and celebrate their community or use the event to raise money for a charity of their choice. It’s happening on Sunday 3 June during the 28th annual Volunteers’ Week (1 – 7 June) so why not get a free pack from our website, www.thebiglunch.com and organise your own get together.

Joanne McDowell, Big Lottery Fund NI Director, said: "The Big Lunch is firmly establishing itself in Northern Ireland as a great way for communities and neighbourhoods to come together in the simple act of sharing a meal.

“The Big Lottery Fund is encouraging charities, volunteer organisations and community groups across Northern Ireland to run Big Lunches in their communities that will bring local people together. The good conversations started at Big Lunches can lead to stronger neighbourhood networks and motivate people to take more of an active role in their communities.”

Big Jubilee Lunches are also taking place as part of the celebrations to mark
the Diamond Jubilee in 2012 over the long weekend 2nd – 5th June.

"We continue to stand by our lean beef as 100% wholesome, safe and nutritious, and we will continue to defend Beef Products, Inc. against the mischaracterized and irresponsible misrepresentations that led us to take these actions," said spokesman Rich Jochum, urging consumers to visit the website BeefIsBeef. It says its boneless lean beef is "approximately 94% lean beef, and made with great attention to food safety and quality." [15]

In a statement, the company said it was attempting "to rebuild markets following the unfounded and misguided attacks" and was "making significant progress in setting the record straight." "We continue to stand by our lean beef as 100% wholesome, safe and nutritious, and we will continue to defend Beef Products, Inc. against the mischaracterized and irresponsible misrepresentations that led us to take these actions," said spokesman Rich Jochum, urging consumers to visit the website BeefIsBeef. It says its boneless lean beef is "approximately 94% lean beef, and made with great attention to food safety and quality." [15] "We intend to continue operations at this location and expand production here as the market activity allows," Jochum said. "In the interim, we continue to stand by our lean beef as 100 percent wholesome, safe and nutritious, and we will continue to defend Beef Products Inc. against the mischaracterized and irresponsible misrepresentations that led us to take these actions." [22]

Beef Products, Inc. extracts lean meat from beef trimmings and processes it into low-fat meat products for use in grocery stores and fast-food restaurants. [6]

Sen. Bill Dotzler, D-Waterloo, whose district includes the shuttered Beef Products processing plant, said the governor’s efforts "just couldn’t keep up" with the spread of the negative publicity. [9]

In late March, the company suspended production of its lean finely textured beef, a filler made from chemically treated trimmings that is mixed with fattier beef, at the three plants. [15] In late March, BPI suspended production at the three plants for 60 days. At that time, BPI spokesman Rich Jochum had said the closure could become permanent. "This is a direct reaction to all the misinformation about our lean beef," Jochum said then. [24]

The product is, on average, 95 percent lean beef and is mixed with ground beef and in other products including low-fat hot dogs. [6] In March, public outcry erupted over the filler for ground beef, which is made from fatty trimmings that are more susceptible to contamination than other cuts of beef. The trimmings are therefore sprayed with ammonia – more often associated with cleaning products – to remove pathogens such as salmonella and E.coli. [24] The product, added to some ground beef, includes beef trimmings treated with ammonia to kill bacteria. [18] Following the public backlash, many grocery stores announced that they would either discontinue selling ground beef that included LFTB or they would label the ground beef that included the product. Buddy’s Crabs & Ribs Crabcake

Buddy’s Crabs & Ribs Crabcake
Healthy Foods To Eat
Image by Mr. T in DC
Crabcake sandwich with French fries, at Buddy’s Crabs & Ribs, at 100 Main Street, in Annapolis, Maryland. The fries didn’t look particularly interesting, but they tasted very good and were extra-crisp, so they must use a good-quality oil. I’ve been on a diet lately, eating very healthy food, but decided to splurge a bit for this meal.
