VICENZA, Italy – As Angolan women and children waited in a military hospital triage area during exercise Kwanza 2010, a U.S. Army Africa officer took note.

Maj. George K. Allen, Jr. 40, of Lynnwood, Wash., was one of four international observers at the weeklong exercise, conducted in early June in Cabo Ledo, Angola.

The exercise was held by the Central African Multinational Force in order to validate the unit. Known as FOMAC, the force is one of five brigade-size elements that make up the African Union’s African Standby Force.

The FOMAC is built around forces from the Economic Community of Central African States (French acronym CEEAC). Troops who took part in the exercise came from Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Republic of Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sao Tome and Principe and Chad.

Incorporating a medical mission to offer humanitarian assistance during the exercise exemplifies FOMAC’s progressive level of planning and coordination, Allen said.

“It shows that Africans are ready to help Africans,” Allen said. “They had a multi-national staff of military medics representing several central African countries – all working together to help local people. That’s impressive.”

Allen along with Lt. Jonathan Goerk, of U.S. Naval Forces Africa, were among a group of observers that included Maj. Gen. Samaila Iliya from the African Union. As the U.S. military representatives, the American observers were interested in how the force is organized, its logistical and signal capabilities and how FOMAC plans and conducts operations.

“We were there to observe and to learn from the countries within the FOMAC,” Goerk said. “We were grateful for the opportunity to attend.”

The role of the U.S. participants was to observe the event and assess how the United States can best engage with CEEAC and its member states to enhance regional peace and security capacity, including maritime security, disaster response, humanitarian relief operations, and peacekeeping missions.

During the exercise, the multi-national force faced a “real-world” exercise scenario based on events and experiences gained in previous African crisis situations. That meant the primary focus was establishing security and offering care to local people.

Amphibious forces landed at a beach in rib boats from ships just off the coast. Paratroopers leapt from a Cameroonian C-130 transport plane. Medics set up two field hospitals, where local Angolans received care that included pediatric visits, women’s health checks, dentistry and minor surgery.

“They had naval, air and ground forces working with police, civilian components and nongovernmental organizations – all whom worked together to create positive effects,” Allen said. “FOMAC showed that it has the ability to promote security in central Africa.”

Ask most people which part of their body they are most unhappy with and would like to change, and many will answer ‘get rid of the belly’. A flat, toned stomach is one of the most admired parts of being in shape – it makes you look fit, healthy and sexy. A flat tummy is also much younger looking – look at the many common terms for extra tummy fat: middle-aged spread, beer belly, pot belly, spare tyre, love handles, muffin top, etc. Diet And Exercise Get Rid Of Cellulite

A flat stomach is attainable for most of us, but requires a three-pronged attack:

1. Aerobic exercise and a weight-loss diet

2. A specific diet avoiding certain foods

3. Core strengthening and toning exercises

1. Weight loss program

Just doing hundreds of sit-ups will not give you a six-pack, you first have to address any abdominal fat which covers those much desired muscles.

We all have that lovely grid of abdominal muscles on our bodies, you just need to reveal them!

You need to do some form of aerobic exercise for 20 mins 3 times a week, and follow a healthy weight loss diet plan to get rid of any excess weight.

2. Abs diet

There are certain foods that are recognised as not being helpful to a flat tum. They can cause bloating or gas or water retention. Diet And Exercise Get Rid Of Cellulite

Foods to avoid for a flat stomach are: processed meals, high fat foods, high sugar foods, high salt foods, alcohol and for some people certain beans, and also some vegetables from the cabbage family, such as brussels sprouts.

For a flat stomach you need to eat a healthy balanced diet: whole grains, lean protein, leafy green vegetables, berries, yoghurt, olive oil and Omega 3 rich foods.

If you suffer from bloating it is advisable to seek advice from your doctor as this can be an underlying symptom of more serious complaints. If you haven’t done any exercise for a while, or if you have any doubts about your health, it’s always a good idea to talk to your doctor before you start.

3. Core strengthening exercises

No exercise will spot reduce fat, but following a program of abdominal exercises will help you gain strength, tone and definition, which will become visible once you have lost any excess belly fat.

You need to do different exercises to work your front, lower and side(obliques) abdominal muscles and to help strengthen your core strength overall. The bonus is that as well as toning your abs you will strengthen your back muscles, helping you avoid injuries.

 The best way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you eat. Exercise more and eat less. Cardio workouts are the perfect way to achieve this and improve your health at the same time. Some people say a slow and steady pace is the way to go, and others push for a high intensity workout. Which should you use?

 Try them both for six to eight weeks and track your progress. The slow and steady options include walking, elliptical trainers, and bicycling at a consistent pace. These exercises are also good if you need low impact options that won’t put to much stress on your knees and joints. But what if you want more intense training?

 A high-intensity work-out means exercise at a faster pace in bursts of movements. You’ll burn calories faster and step-up your metabolism. It will be harder on your joints, though, so this is not always the best way to start. Especially is you’ve had any knee problems in the past.

 Keep track of your progress with both types of exercise. Make sure your calorie intake remains the same. At the end of both six week trials you’ll have your answer. You’ll know the best exercise to lose weight for you. Track not only your weight lose but how you feel.  But do you need to buy different sets of equipment for each type of exercise?

 The standard exercise equipment will work for either type of workout depending on how you use it. You can walk on your treadmill or you can do a high intensity run. If you want to work out your upper and lower body you can use an elliptical trainer. Again, you can do a low or high intensity workout with these machines. They offer a wide variety of resistance levels so your workout can grow with as your fitness level increases.

 The great thing about losing weight by eating healthier and exercising are the added benefits. Your energy level will increase helping you feel and look younger. Plus, exercise releases endorphins that act as natural anti-depressants. Your moods will lift as you stick with a consistent workout plan.

 Finding the best exercise to lose weight doesn’t have to be hard, and when you have to shop for a smaller size in jeans it becomes easier and easier.

I had coffee for breakfast. There is NO getting around this, because food doesn’t sound good in the mornings! your eating habits are relatively healthy [as far as your lunch goes]. [: you could do without the mayo, though. or switch to a lite version. for breakfast, since food doesn’t sound appetizing, why not try a fruit smoothie? fresh fruit, yogurt, and some skim milk. or they have breakfast drinks [eg. carnation] that you can buy. as for dinner, i couldn’t really tell you how healthy or unhealthy it is without examples.

VICENZA, Italy – As Angolan women and children waited in a military hospital triage area during exercise Kwanza 2010, a U.S. Army Africa officer took note.

Maj. George K. Allen, Jr. 40, of Lynnwood, Wash., was one of four international observers at the weeklong exercise, conducted in early June in Cabo Ledo, Angola.

The exercise was held by the Central African Multinational Force in order to validate the unit. Known as FOMAC, the force is one of five brigade-size elements that make up the African Union’s African Standby Force.

The FOMAC is built around forces from the Economic Community of Central African States (French acronym CEEAC). Troops who took part in the exercise came from Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Republic of Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Sao Tome and Principe and Chad.

Incorporating a medical mission to offer humanitarian assistance during the exercise exemplifies FOMAC’s progressive level of planning and coordination, Allen said.

“It shows that Africans are ready to help Africans,” Allen said. “They had a multi-national staff of military medics representing several central African countries – all working together to help local people. That’s impressive.”

Allen along with Lt. Jonathan Goerk, of U.S. Naval Forces Africa, were among a group of observers that included Maj. Gen. Samaila Iliya from the African Union. As the U.S. military representatives, the American observers were interested in how the force is organized, its logistical and signal capabilities and how FOMAC plans and conducts operations.

“We were there to observe and to learn from the countries within the FOMAC,” Goerk said. “We were grateful for the opportunity to attend.”

The role of the U.S. participants was to observe the event and assess how the United States can best engage with CEEAC and its member states to enhance regional peace and security capacity, including maritime security, disaster response, humanitarian relief operations, and peacekeeping missions.

During the exercise, the multi-national force faced a “real-world” exercise scenario based on events and experiences gained in previous African crisis situations. That meant the primary focus was establishing security and offering care to local people.

Amphibious forces landed at a beach in rib boats from ships just off the coast. Paratroopers leapt from a Cameroonian C-130 transport plane. Medics set up two field hospitals, where local Angolans received care that included pediatric visits, women’s health checks, dentistry and minor surgery.

“They had naval, air and ground forces working with police, civilian components and nongovernmental organizations – all whom worked together to create positive effects,” Allen said. “FOMAC showed that it has the ability to promote security in central Africa.”
